Sam Harris, a prominent LA-based atheist, has admitted he’d justify lying to keep Trump out of office. That is a shocking but not surprising confession. He also wrote a book about truth, but such is hypocrisy and life when you live in the “sh*tty heaven” of Los Angeles (it is often said that LA is a sh*tty heaven and NYC is a fun hell). This isn’t just Sam’s opinion—it’s a symptom of the broader problem within the modern Left. When lying becomes acceptable in pursuit of power, it reveals the absolute truth about a political movement, one that is willing to sideline principles for convenience. Who's the danger to democracy?
The Left often claims to be the party of fairness and transparency, but reality tells a different story. Take net neutrality, for example—a cause they once championed for a free and fair internet. Introduced in 2015, net neutrality regulations were designed to prevent internet service providers (ISPs) from blocking, slowing down, or prioritizing certain websites or services.
After the FCC repealed net neutrality in 2017, the Left quickly abandoned the fight. Why? Because they no longer needed it. At that time platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Google—dominated by left-leaning leadership—already controlled the flow of online information. These tech giants enforced content moderation policies that disproportionately suppressed dissenting views, particularly from conservatives. Net neutrality, once framed as critical to internet freedom, became irrelevant as the Left realized they already had an ironclad grip on information distribution. Their focus shifted from leveling the playing field to consolidating control.
This shift reflects the broader transformation in the Left’s relationship with free speech. Historically, the Left championed free expression—just think of pivotal moments like the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. But by the early 2010s, this commitment gave way to political correctness. By 2013, the Left had embraced censorship—not through overt government mandates, but through societal pressure and control of narratives.
This gave rise to “cancel culture,” where individuals faced severe repercussions for expressing views that deviated from progressive “conformist" norms. Corporate America and academia amplified this trend, further enforcing the rigid ideologies.
Social media platforms took it even further, enforcing vastly uneven content moderation policies that silenced conservative voices while promoting “acceptable” speech. What was once about protecting free expression morphed into ensuring ideological dominance. Free speech was replaced with a chilling environment where censorship was justified as a tool to enforce progressive orthodoxy. I often refer to those days as the ideological dark ages.
Now, the Left is spiraling out of control over this massive loss of power. The have completely lost control of mainstream platforms, new avenues for dissent have emerged, and mainstream media is imploding under its own bias. The Left is clearly in disbelief that their once ironclad grip on media in America—while short-lived—is gone for good.
Then there’s the glaring hypocrisy surrounding money in politics. Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign spent over $1.2 billion—double Trump’s $600 million. Despite this massive financial advantage, she lost. In 2024, Kamala Harris raised over $1.1 billion—nearly three times Trump’s $450 million—and while this was done in record time, with all sorts of dubious fundraising claims, she still lost. The next time the Left rails against money in politics, remind them of the past eight years.
And let’s not forget Senator Elizabeth Warren’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). On paper, it sounds like a noble cause—protecting consumers from predatory practices. But in practice, its structure was a constitutional nightmare. Designed to be unaccountable to the president and insulated from democratic oversight, the CFPB became a prime example of overreach. The Supreme Court had to step in with Seila Law LLC v. CFPB (2020) to rule its leadership structure unconstitutional. These kinds of power grabs are precisely what erode public trust in government institutions.
The pattern is undeniable: while the Left accuses Trump and his supporters of undermining democracy, they engage in behaviors that are far more damaging. Whether it’s Harris defending dishonesty, Clinton and Kamala outspending opponents while decrying money in politics, or Warren creating unconstitutional bureaucracies, the contradictions pile up.
The 2016 election was a warning. The public rejected the arrogance of a political class that pretends to stand for fairness while acting above the rules. But instead of learning from their failures, many Democrats doubled down on the same tactics. The 2024 election was a mandate, yet Democrats still claim Trump’s victories are due to low turnout on their side. It’s incredible how unwilling they are to change their thinking.
So here’s the question: What’s the real danger of Trump? Is it his rhetoric? Or is it the Left’s willingness to sacrifice truth, integrity, and constitutional norms to hold onto power? Because when manipulation becomes the norm, democracy is the real loser—and no amount of spending or spin can change that.
